Foggy Day
Now if you know me i love a good foggy day--some might say i'm a lover of fog-anyways- we had one of those days a couple of weeks back and i just had to capture it. Our backyard looked great draped in fog- enjoy!
Getting ready for Fall
So we've pretty much gotten everything we can out of the summer. All in all we had a good haul- early on we had lots of lettuce, squash and heirloom tomatoes and then when those started to peter out we got peppers, corn, okra pumpkins and gourds. Mainly we were just trying to figure out what we can really grow in our little garden and next summer we can focus on certain crops and not try the others.
Now we're getting ready for fall. That means adding nutrients to soil and cleaning out all the dead and diseased stuff. The pumpkin vine done quit so i cleaned it out along with all our tomato plants. The cherries still had some fruit but the plants were getting really leggy and tallulah took a liking to the tomatoes so i just decided to remove temptation.
For the fall line so far we had brussels sprouts, three different lettuces, cabbage, collard greens, and some broccoli. We'll see-------------

Week of July 12 - 18 in words & pictures
I have not posted new pictures in a while but it not for being lazy- we spread two truck loads of mulch and planted some new stuff so we've been busy.
The garden has kept its pace of growing like a mad beast, especially the gourd and white pumpkin- both have sizable fruit(?) growing on them and i think they grow about an inch a day and the trellis is working overtime holding up all that vine- and the cantaloupes are just starting.
We've also been harvesting quite a bit; corn, okra, tons of tomatoes, squash, cherry tomatoes and lettuce. So far we made lots of heirloom tomato salads, grilled veggie pizza and a heirloom tomato pizza with fresh basil and fresh mozzarella- pure deliciousness.
Well- a picture says a thousand words so lets check out all these...

Harvest Time- Week of June 28 - July 4
Well- we got our first harvest of squash and tomatoes- our Cherokee Purples are the ones that riped first and then a couple of days later we were able to pick some German Johnsons. We have already had two or three heirloom tomato salads and are in heaven- they are as delicious as store bought ones (we might be a tad bit bias though.) Also our squash was tasty as well- we stuffed them with a stuffing mix and roasted them for about 30 minutes.

Week of June 7-13 in words
This week was fairly normal weather wise- a little hot but that's normal for early summer. Saturday we filled in some holes with a mix of soil, compost and peat moss. The plants should appreciate the extra padding during these warm days.
-Tomatoes, ofcourse are going so strong. The tops are almost reaching the top of the vertical frame and each tomato looks like they are growing well with no holes.
-Lettuce is coming to the end of its season- but we've gotten four good harvests out of our 4 little plants- that was a lot of salads.
-Carrots tops are getting big- hope the roots are too!
-Yellow squash is moving right along and looking great- we're hopefully going to have a lot.
-Cantaloupe has blooms- hope the melons come soon.
-Corn is amazing, the tassel(the top flowering part) is coming out on one of the plants.
-White pumpkin is out of control-the vine has surpassed the top of the vertical frame and i guess we'll start training it across the top.
-And finally the gourd is growing right along despite being pushed aside by the monster pumpkin.
